I made it until the end of February before blogging about my winter blahs. Not bad since I’ve been frustrated w/ cold and wet weather for the past three weeks. I’ve spent a lot of that time working on little owls. I have 14 owls in the works right now. They’re all in various stages of being completed. They all have faces. Some need the backs sewn on, others just need to be stuffed and closed up. I’ll post a pic when I dig them back out. I have several other sewing projects I’ve been wanting to start, but made an executive decision last weekend. I need to finish a project. So I put away (sorta) the fabrics and owls and dug out the baby blanket and rock quilt.
A few weeks ago when I was last in Chicago I bought the backing fabric for the rock quilt. I also got the stuffing and a rough idea of how to proceed with finishing. The fabric pictured above is the backing, and the red actually matches at least one t shirt perfectly. The rock quilt seems most logical to finish since it has been going on the longest. But I’ll need to lay everything flat on the floor for a while and that proves difficult w/ two mischievous kitties in the house. Plus it’s getting difficult for me to get off the floor lately once I get down there.
The baby blanket is a bit easier to work on since I’m still at the crocheting stages. I have all the yarn out so that I can work on it here and there. As of last night I only need 9 squares! I really need to finish one of these projects soon. I need the feeling of accomplishment, and both these projects were pretty big, so I’ll be very happy when one or both are done. I’m also getting worried they’ll be forgotten about and I’ve put too much time into both to stop now. So this weekend my goal is to work on one of the two.
We’re steadily working on the baby room and other things around the house. Day care decisions, hospital, and doctor choices are all completed or coming close to it. I’m coming very close to the end of the second trimester and am already feeling some symptoms of the third. Baby is very healthy and uses my innards as a punching bag daily. I’ve been spending spare time w/ my crochet hook, but when that’s done I’ll get some new holga pics up.

Lately I’ve been bitten by the fiber bug. Started with the baby blanket, a crochet project in the works. Then I became inspired by some etsy sellers and some doodles of owls through a google search or two. I ran up to the fabric store and came home with a set of fat quarters from their quilting section, along with some matching felt. I immediately started cutting out shapes and hand sewing. Funny how I’m all quilted out but I had no trouble hand sewing little owls. These little guys are what I’ve come up with. They are about 2-3 inches, and when completed have a slight stuffing.
Then when I was home last weekend I raided Mom’s stash of fun fabrics. I’m naturally drawn to the batiks. I was even before I knew what batiks were! I just love the colors and texture from that dying process. I cut small pieces off most of her batik stash and now I have quadruple the plans for owls. And since the colors are so tropical I’m now thinking I might try and make some fish as well. I’ll probably make the fish bigger so they’d be more like toys than the owls are. I have no idea what I’ll do w/ the owls. So far thats not bothering me b/c I have so much fun making them. I literally giggle while sewing! I haven’t started any fish yet. I do have a few doodles going for ideas. I’m having a hard time deciding if I should applique the fish, or piece them. I’m leaning toward applique. It has occured to me how cool it would be to use beads as accents. I’m sorta tempted, except then the baby wouldn’t be able to play w/ it. Although who knows if he’ll even enjoy my handmade sillynesses. I’m sure enjoying them right now though. =)

It’s been just about two weeks since the last time I picked up a crochet hook. But surprisingly I’m not discouraged or getting sick of my blanket project yet. The lag has been due to a new excitement with fabrics lately, but more on that later. Last week I laid out all the finished squares to get an idea of where I stood for progress. 2/3’s done! I’ve made the decision to make the blanket square, 6x6 squares. That will keep the blanket from getting too heavy, and there’s less chance that I will get tired of making it. 2/3’s done sounds much better than half way.
Last weekend I went home to do some much needed clothes shopping. I’m now 25 weeks and managed to get this far with 2 maternity shirts and the rest was my own clothes or Chris’s clothes. I wasn’t going to make it much longer though. While home I borrowed a tapestry needle from Mom and started sewing some of the squares together. The process wasn’t as tedious as I thought it might be. So far I’ve been able to use the spare ends to sew together the squares. So I haven’t needed any additional yarn. They look so much better sewn together too. I need to break out the yarn again and get crocheting. Only 11 squares left to go!

Season 6 the final and last season of Lost has finally started and with a glorious bang. Smokey was one of the mysteries I thought would be left unsolved…proves how much I know. While describing the premiere to Chris I came up with some head scratchers that probably don’t mean a whole lot. But I still enjoy thinking about them.
So far impressions of Jacob vs Man in Black/faux Locke/Smokey are basically good verses evil. This is not proven, but I definitely got the feel that Jacob really was protecting the island, and maybe even protecting our characters by bringing them to the island. Or perhaps bringing them was solely for the purpose of protecting the island. That was his job for decades and he took it seriously. I also think Jacob was protecting people/parts of the island from Smokey. The Man in Black doesn’t like and wants to kill Jacob. He’s obviously supernatural and powerful. He manipulated the king manipulator, Ben, into killing Jacob for him and possibly even Locke. Leaving the smoke monster free ravage the island (temple people trying to keep someone/thing out) and to attempt to get off the island.
The debate of good vs evil is similar but not the same as the faith vs reason debate. At least in my eyes, b/c I can’t say that either faith or reason are evil. Although both can be construed in the right mind to become evil. When I first saw the season 6 promo pic of our characters posed in the Last Supper setting by Leonardo da Vinci I saw this as a reference to the faith vs reason debate. With Locke as the lead believer as Jesus at the center of the table. Now I see an odd spin put on this. If in the pic it is the faux Locke, (which to me if Locke is dead, faux Locke is Locke now) and faux Locke is Smokey, and perhaps evil…why oh why did they put him at the center of the table. And you know they put him there on purpose. Pretty much everything they’ve been doing for season 6 has a symbolic purpose. Also there is a bit of speculation that Sayid coming back from death (despite the island’s magic) may be coming back as Jacob. Sayid may be the single character besides maybe Ben, that has done flat our evil horrible things. He know’s it and regrets them. But what a twist for Jacob to come back as Sayid, a strong army man, torturer, and murderer. And the Man in Black to use Locke, a handicapped guy who perhaps believed too much and did too little.

I don’t remember if I’ve shared this video on here before or not, but I’m sharing again. I love it. Matthew Fox took photos of the set and actors off camera while shooting the pilot. The square photos are shot w/ a holga which is pretty cool, and I think he used a panoramic camera for the others. Plus it’s fun to hear and see off camera stories of what it was like to shoot such a huge pilot. I kinda wish he’d done something like this for each season…maybe he will when they shoot the final episode. Maybe he won’t. I haven’t found any other photographs by him since. Lost fan or not it’s a cool glimpse into Hollywood, behind the scenes.

*Warning, embedded video is and does get annoying.*
But it goes with my point of the post. It seems like an obvious fact that the writers of Lost will not answer all the questions they’ve left hanging over the first 5 seasons. The writers have done interviews saying that not all questions will be answered. Some are little questions that don’t seem to bother me..such as what was said over the forced dinner Ben has with Kate in season 3. Others will probably be larger questions that are just plain unanswerable. And those are the questions that are better left unanswered in order to leave a series such as this one on a positive note. It won’t please everyone, especially the people out there spoiled by Hollywood and their happy ending movies. But an up in the air finish is sort of what I’m expecting…with a few of the many loose ends tied up.
So what questions am I expecting to be answered? This is all speculative, I haven’t done much searching for spoilers, and I don’t want to. This are just my random thoughts.
1)Did Jack’s plan work and detonating Jughead stop Oceanic 815 from crashing? I’ve heard rumor this is true and that season 6 will follow the lives of the characters sans the crash in an alter reality. I believe the writers are brave enough to try something like this but I’m not thinking they’ll do it during a the final season on a show where there are already so many questions needing answers. If this was done IMO it should have been instead of the time travel. Which really could have been another interesting approach to the show altogether. Anyway this question will be addressed and I would imagine it would be in the first few episodes.
2) I think we’ll get some explanation as to who Jacob is as well as the guy who wants to or wanted to kill Jacob. It may not be totally spelled out but we’ll get something. We’ll also get some sort of Jack and Locke resolution to the whole Reason vs Faith battle they are fighting. I’m speculating that the who is Jacob answer will some how answer how/why Christian is alive or haunting the island. And this may lead to answers about Claire.
3) The Claire/Arron story will be be resolved. I don’t think they could just leave that hanging, espeically since Kate’s reason for returning was to find Claire, and she’s back this season.
4) The Sawyer/Jack/Kate annoying love threesome will be resolved. I’m kinda rooting for they all go in separate directions from each other.
5) Who are Adam and Eve? The bodies found in season 1. It would work too perfectly w/ the time travel for it not to be answered. But I can see it waiting until the finale.
6)The numbers. I’m back and forth on this. They were such an important part of the series at the beginning, and still are although they aren’t referred to as much any more. I can see them trying to attempt an explanation. But I can also see it going the other way and letting them be just one of those mysteries.
