A Crymson Life

#13 volunteer/donate

Number 13 on my list of 29 plus 1 is to volunteer or donate to a good cause.  I had big thoughts for this and still do but am not real sure how realistic they are.  So many good intentions, for example I really wanted to crochet a little stockings for the baby’s in the NICU, something to try and brighten that place and up and a small something for their first Christmas’s.  I managed to get 3 done, but am not even sure if I’ll give them as gifts to friends.  In my baby blanket stage I came across a group called Project Linus.  Their mission is to “provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers”.”  This is a great cause and a wonderful group.  It makes me want to quilt and crochet blankets galore.

I still have hopes and plans to contribute to larger causes, but a small one popped up recently that I couldn’t pass up.  A close friend has a sister in-law that is an art therapist.  Recently there was a fire in the building she works in and she lost all her art supplies.  She was looking for anything and everything that could be turned into art.  Inspired I went into my mess of a bead/craft closest and pulled out baggies of beads, corks, charms, ribbon, and anything else I could find.  I put two boxes together for her and donated the supplies to her and her students/patients.  I hope someone creates something amazing with the materials and gets something out of the creating process.

Being a “blanketeer” for a good cause must be great fun. Blankets are surely a lot of fun to make. The donation of the bead supplies is very kind and creating can be very rewarding and healing!
