A Crymson Life

Kick off Scary Movie Month

October is here and with it comes the cooler weather, leaves changing colors, apples are in season, and pumpkins are making their appearances.  October for us also means Scary Movie Month.  For the last three years Chris and I watch “scary” movies throughout the month.  The movies don’t have to actually be scary, but sorta themed that way.  We have a huge list this year.

On Wednesday we kicked off the month with Shaun of the Dead.  One of our favorites and is truely more of a comedy than a horror flick.  It’s sort of a parody of Dawn of the Dead, and made by the same guys that did Hot Fuzz.  Although if you ask me Shaun of the Dead is a million times better than Hot Fuzz.  We watch this movie at least once in October, soon they’ll start to play it nonstop on Comedey Central.  This year to spice things up a little we’re making up a rating system for each movie.  Shaun of the Dead gets 4 out of 4 Braaaaaainsgulp  And our favorite quote of the movie was “Can we get any of you $@&*# a drink?”

Yesterday we watched two back to back scary shows.  First was Clive Barker’s The Midnight Meat Train and the second was the debate.  I don’t think the debate really counts so I’ll go back to the Clive Barker movie.  Not my type of scary movie.  I perfer more of a suspense scary or a freaky idea over blood and gore.  This was definitely a blood and gore movie.  Chris really enjoyed it though and is totally pumped when he found out they are making more of Clive Barker’s books into movies.  Since he watched the movie a bit more closely than I did Chris did the ratings.  He gave Midnight Meat Train 4 out of 4 Bodies

I’m not sure what’s next on the list, we’ve been playing it by ear and waiting to see what we’re in the mood to watch.  We’re heading up to Chicago for a wedding this weekend so not sure if there will be time for movies.  I’m bringing my beads though.  I have a ton of leaves to make and I’m slowly chipping away at them.

Great write-up!
Clive Barker is an amazing writer and really fascinating in person. There are few that paint dark, disturbing landscapes with bleak hope in the way he does. Seeing this book translated over to film with the suspense intact was a real treat.
And Shaun Of The Dead is always great.

I am not so much into movies but I always like comedy movies of all themes. In our youth, we were keen on a movie called “Braindead”. Ha, ha!
