a little bit of everything
This weekend was filled with a little bit of everything. Everything I’ve been thinking about lately and wishing I could be doing I hit this weekend. Saturday was the first warm weekend day that hasn’t been raining (although it wasn’t sunny) that I could work in the yard. I barely put a dent in what I want to do, but I did get our compost bin put together and out in the yard. The bin itself is made of recycled plastics which I think is great but it didn’t feel very sturdy. So I reinforced the joints with duct tape. Then I went around the yard and started pruning or cutting down shrub’s and trees around the yard. I didn’t even finish this task, but I did come up with a to do list of other yard related things that I want to buy or fix up. =)
The dude came down Saturday afternoon to join us for beerfest. Beerfest is an annual event in Peoria where vendor’s from all over the country come and you buy 4oz samples of 360 different beers. It’s a huge hit with lots of people. A group of friends met up with us at our place and we walked up to the fest. It was crowded and loud, but we soon discovered and outdoor area in the drizzle that was much more pleasant. Plus had some good beers nearby. The dude also brought a digital camera that mom gave me to play with. It’s an older version dslr, and lately I’d been thinking about taking some photography classes.
Sunday I played with the camera on and off all day. It’s a Nikon so some of the basic symbols I recognise from my camera. In the morning I took pictures around the back yard. By the afternoon I realized the rain wasn’t going to stop, so I decided to take a spontaneous walk in the rain thru the woods behind our house and down to the creek. It was a steady rain that didn’t feel heavy while I was out there, but I was only gone 40 minutes or so and I was soaked coming home. I took pictures of everything I thought interesting, spring flowers, water drips off leaves, birds, small waterfalls of streams heading to the creek, strange fungi growing on trees. I glanced through the pics last night, some turned out alright, I definitely need to read up on the manual. Maybe I’ll set up a flicker account soon.
Finally in between walks in the rain I worked on some more petals and flower centers for the wreath. I have a feeling the progress might slow a bit now I have the camera in my hands. But I don’t have any plans to stop altogether.
