A Crymson Life

Mackinaw Valley Art and Wine Festival

What a fun day!  Sunday was the show and the weather was perfect.  I was pretty nervous at first but Misty came and helped me set up and once we got started setting up things just went smoothly.  The show went from 12-6pm.  It only took the an hour to set up and I’m very happy with the way every thing looked.  This is the best booth I’ve put together so far!  I had lots of tables and table clothes.  Much more than I needed but it was nice to be able to pick and choose what I wanted to display how.  From 12-3 there was a steady flow of people coming through looking mostly.  I received lots of compliments for having something different.  The wine charms were a huge hit.  I also got an idea for a wine bottle charm.  I’ll have to develop the new idea in time for Christmas gifts!

One of my biggest concerns is that I’m not a natural sales person.  The guy next to me was a wood artist and was very much the sales guy.  I listened to him schmooze the people in his booth and was fascinated by it.  But that’s just not my style.  The wine I sipped did help relax me to make small talk when people looked interested or when people asked questions.  I had a lady come who used to make beaded flowers, and another lady say her mother had some antique beaded flowers.  There were about 30ish artists and I’m not sure how every one did.  People didn’t really seem like they were buying art, although I did see lots of wine being drank!

It was a lot of fun.  A million times better than the little show I did last year.  Right now I’m not thinking I’ll apply to big shows again.  I really liked that this was just local artists selling.  I even knew one from the art guild.  It’s kinda cool to think that I’m starting to become one of the local artists who know each other in the area.  It’s fun to support local business and not get consumed in the craziness that can be the art fair world.  Tonight I’ve been playing with pics from California.  I have lots of photoshop work ahead of me in the next few days!

The booth looks very inviting and you look quite happy on the photo. I am glad that you enjoyed it so much. I am also sure that you can learn becoming a sales person when you participate in such shows more often!
“photoshop work” reminds me on the vacation movie I need to edit ... *sigh*

I can understand your feelings about not being a sales person. I was not always a fan of that sort of thing either. Plus, I bet you made a lot of these flowers out of your love for the design, creation, and process of making them… not for the love of selling them. Maybe Clover could carry them in her store?
