Eye of Ra

My newest addition to the gallery are my “Wall Flowers,” or flowers that I’ve mounted so that they can be hung on the wall. I came up with the idea after last years 8x8 auction at the PAG. I might have come up with the idea late last year but I’d been making the flowers that will become these wall flowers for over a year now. This one was created in spring of 2008. This inspiration is the Egyptian symbol the Eye of Ra. I came up with the idea while on a walk with my husband and quickly locked myself in the bead room finding colors that would work just right for this sort of piece. The petals came together quickly as did the layout. Then it sat for a while until a center for the flower worked out. Then it sat again until recently when I finally mounted it so that the final piece measures 8”x8”.
The flower itself measures approximately 6.5 inches in diameter. It is created using high quality red and gold toned glass seed beads. It’s accented with hand wrapped brass wire, red tiger’s eye gem stones, and a Czech glass bead as the center. You can see a bigger pic of Eye of Ra in my gallery.
