weekend fun
This Labor Day weekend we spent doing fun stuff around the house and around Peoria. Friday night we drove up to Mackinaw vineyards in hopes of having a glass of wine while I walk through the grapes taking pics with my holga and my new pinhole. Unfortunately, they closed down the bar b/c there was a wedding in the pavilion. We thought about crashing the party, but decided just to walk and take pics then leave early. From there we went to the theaters and saw District 9, the new sci fi thriller by Peter Jackson. It was excellent! I highly recommend.
Saturday I hung out in downtown Washington w/ a good friend. We had lunch and looked in homey stores. And of course we stopped into the quilt store. Such an awesome store. I’d been thinking I might like to try a quilt for a while now, but didn’t have anything in mind that inspired me enough to really try. Until recently while cleaning out our closets Chris made a pile of his old concert tshirt. He doesn’t wear them any more, but didn’t really want to throw them away. So I got really excited about turning them into a crazy quilt. Combining different tshirt with varying amounts of wear and tear with the other fabrics I found in the quilt store. I spent a good deal of the weekend working on the quilt. So far I have probably about 3/4s of every thing cut. (hard to tell since I haven’t measured anything and don’t know how big I plan to go w/ this) I’m really just going by the amount of tshirt I have left to cut. The cutting wasn’t too bad, I’m not really looking forward to ironing on the fusible backing onto all the tshirt pieces. Fusible backing is supposed to not let the tshirt stretch terribly so that the quilt will stay looking the way it’s supposed to look. So far I’ve learned I’m not real sure I’m made to be a quilter. If I was making a pattern and needed everything to be exact I’m not sure I’d still be working on this. =) But I am still very excited about this crazy quilt and think it’s going to look very cool when it’s done.
Sunday and Monday we did some shopping and hiking. We went to some halloween stores, furniture stores, and bummed around the mall. We hiked in the woods down near the river. It’s very peaceful there. And we spent some time relaxing watching movies, while I cut apart tshirt. =)
