keeping warm projects

Lots has been going on in the past two weeks. I managed to finish hand piecing the Rock quilt together. I am surprised on how well it turned out! It’s definitely busy but it doesn’t overwhelm me. I’m not finished though. I need to go out and find the right fabric for the back. I want to put in a layer of batting and finish it nicely. I think the fabric hunt could be hard because I’m very sick of black. But I’m not sure if I can find the right color to match. This is sort of on the back burner at the moment. Plans were to shop for fabric this week before Christmas but some bad weather is heading this direction. So I’m turning my focus onto my next project, a baby blanket.

I’m pretty much done with quilting for a while. And I’m color starved. So the plan is to crochet a blanket w/ super soft yarns in a bright nontraditional baby color pallet. I knew I wanted to do something like this for a while now, but it took until last week to find the inspiration for a pattern. I found it while visiting fellow blog Kab’s Concepts. She’s a lampworker/jewerly designer and I love her color combos, she likes em bold, bright, and sometimes crazy. She also on occasion quilts. Reading her blog put the bug in me to try the Rock quilt. Now she just finished this quilt for her son, and it’s put the bug in me not to quilt but to attempt to crochet this pattern. It’s a crazy pattern but the white lines really hold it all together. My version will only have solid colors, but I think it will have a similar effect. Last Thursday night I went out and bought some yarn, and Friday I started my first block. It was a busy weekend and so far I have one and a half blocks completed. But it’s coming home with me for Christmas and I’m super excited to keep this project going.
