A Crymson Life

what it was

The ice is now gone, although it is still pretty darn cold outside. The snow that was supposed to come Wednesday came but its was only a dusting. Nothing too exciting. I took this picture on Tuesday morning, the drips are actually ice on the needles of our white pine tree. It is my favorite tree we have on the property, unfortunately it’s not in the best spot. I wish I could move it more to the front of the house.
Wednesday night I spent some time beading. I finished up a small bouquet that will be a Christmas gift. I’ll take some pics tomorrow and post them. With that done I’ll now allow myself to start on my next project. Well ok, I guess I already did kinda start over the weekend, but now I can continue.
Here is a pic of the color pallet for the next bouquet. I bought most of these in Chicago last weekend when I realized I didn’t have as many greys as I thought. But my thought process here is that in this area winter often is not white like the movies and cartoons make it out to be. At least not in my part of the world. Most of the time it is grey, different hues of grey, brown grey dormant trees, blue grey skies, purplish hues grey clouds. This seems to be especially true when the world has a layer of ice on it. The world sparkles as the light reflects off the ice, but all the color is muted. Right now in the beginning of winter this is still pretty, talk to me in Feb/March and I’ll be sick of the grey. Grey is not often a color associated with beauty or flowers, in fact when I think of grey I think of cold mountains and rock, or black snowy slush from car exhaust. So this project is to try and see if I can turn some grey beads into a winter bouquet that is just as beautiful and a one of my color soaked flowers.
Most of my shopping is finished, so that means I should be able to spend some time this weekend beading   cool smile

The pine tree picture is just wonderful. And you are right: Winter colours are rather hues of grey than pure white!!! I like grey. I am so excited to see your christmas bouquet as well as what you will make from those nice grey beads.
