A Crymson Life

happy holidays

In Charlie Brown’s Christmas he went on a mission to get into the holiday spirit and then ultimately to find the meaning of Christmas. Linus goes into a monologue about the story of the “first Christmas.” I love this movie although my ideas of the meaning of Christmas don’t necessary agree with Linus. Last night we did a small thing that really de-grinchified me. Not sure that I’ve really said this before but over the last few months Chris has been volunteering at a fire department in a small town next to Peoria. Before the volunteering if we’d see a car broken down on the road we’d have a discussion to stop and help. Did we see them on a cell phone calling for help, did some one else stop etc. Last night while driving home there was a car with the hazards on in the middle of a main drag that goes up hill. We passed her and I saw her on the phone, but as soon as we passed she turned off her lights completely. Not the best move considering it was dark and Peoria doesn’t really believe in street lights. There wasn’t a discussion to be had, Chris pulled in to the apartments just up the road (the first turn) and runs out to help her. I stayed in the car since I only had slippers on, not the best pushing shoes. A few min later a large truck pulls in and stops suddenly, a guy jumps out and sprints toward where Chris was. Startled by the sprinting I thought someone had hit Chris pushing so I go out there and check. Next thing I know another car stops and another guy gets out and pushes. Chris is a really big guy, works out regularly, and has recently been excited to bench 300lbs. I know he’d easily be able to push a car, but up hill is another ball park. With three guys they quickly got to the turn off the main road, but there of course was another small incline to get into the parking area and the guys were tired and stuck. In my slippers I head out to help and helped push that car up the hill and into the parking lot. The girl driving had run out of gas and thanked us all many times. We got in the car and drove home.
This has been a long week. Work has been frustrating, and many people have taken vacation. Which just makes me want to be on vacation. After we got home I felt better. I was glad we helped, and had that been me I would have been so thankful for any help. That’s what has put me in the Christmas mood. I’m looking forward to my long drive home tonight, to lots of good food, and fun being with family. I hope everyone has a happy and safe holiday.
