ghosty ryker

Last weekend before illness took over the house I dug out my DSLR and snapped some pics of Chris and Ryker.  R’s eye’s tend to change to different shades of blue depending on what he’s wearing and the lighting.  They can be grey to sapphires to bright blue crystals.  I was attempting to capture his big blue crystal eyes.  I don’t know much about the DSLR, mostly I keep it on aperture mode and mess with the f number which goofs around with the depth of field.  Occasionally a setting goes into effect where the photos become mostly washed out.  It’s only happened to me once before and I don’‘t realize it happens when it does.  I think it has to do with me shooting at a very light area it throws off something in the camera and it’s reaction to white.  In this photo I think R’s light skin and the background is our house which is a dirty white which set it off.  When it does happen I’m always initially bummed with the results.  But then I get to looking at them and realize it’s kinda a cool artsy effect.  R’s eyes are the only true color in the entire photo.
The other time this happened is in the picture below.  We are actually standing on the Pacific Ocean beach in Northern California.  But for some reason all the color was washed away.  Still a rather cool and sorta dramatic photo.
