hello October
October has been a much awaited month for Chris and I. On the 21st we will have been married for a full year! And to celebrate that fantastic feat =0) we rented a cabin in the Smokey Mountains down in Tennessee for an entire week. We leave on the 18th and will return the weekend before Halloween, and we are counting down the days. We are so so so ready for a vacation and this one is going to be unlike any vacation we’ve ever taken. He’s bringing books, a guitar, and hiking gear. I’m bringing books, beads and hiking gear and that’s all we plan on doing. Maybe one day in the touristy areas, but the rest of the time hiking in the mountains, or lounging in the cabin. ahhhhhhhhhhh, two weeks till vacation.
There are lots of other reasons October is going to be a busy month, we’ve already kicked off the weekend and it was pretty busy. Friday night we saw some friends we hadn’t seen since their wedding in Sept. It was fun to compare stories of our trips to the islands. Saturday Chris was in training all morning and we met his crew for lunch. We then headed down to the river front to check out the Art Fair. The art fair was fun, the weather was great, lots of people attended. For some reason I didn’t come out of it as inspired as I normally do. There were a lot of ceramic artists there as well as digital art or photography printed on canvas. While I can appreciate the time someone put into those they don’t talk to me as much as others. There was one piece there that was actually ceramics but it was a wall hanging and I kinda wished we would have gotten it. It would have worked in our basement, but I guess I just wasn’t in the mood. I did buy a small dipping bowl from another ceramics guy, I’m using it as my new beading bowl. It works perfectly! I then spent the rest of the day and far into the night working on my new bouquet. It really came along and is close to done. I have the flowers laced, and wrapped, leaves attached. They’re even sitting in the vase, but I think I need to add some more greens to fill it in. Sunday of course was football day, we watched the Bears play, and mourned what has become of the team.
Other events happening in October are… this week I drop off the unpictured Rusty Rose to the Art Guild. The Hidden Talent In Our Corporate Community exhibit opens Monday, there is a reception on Oct 12th. This weekend we are driving up to Chicago to see our parents and hang out for a bit. It’s been a while since we’ve been up there so it’ll be nice to see everyone again.
And finally, October is scary movie month. Chris loves scary movies mostly the really old super corny, almost comedy scary movies, but he also likes the classics like Pet Cemetery, the Stand, and the Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974 version). So since we started dating (6years ago) we’ve watched scary movies the month of October. Tonight we kick off the month by watching Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds. Chris hasn’t seen it before, but I watched it as a kid. I don’t remember being scared, but I definitely remember it when ever I walk by some power lines and there are hundreds of birds perched there.
