A Crymson Life

in the gardens

I have been playing a lot with photography lately but that’s not all I’ve been up too. In between rain storms and trips to St. Louis in the last week I’ve gotten outside to start the compost bin. I officially have one layer of brown material and one layer of green. It’s not really a lot, but the next full day I get to spend in the yard will definitely get a couple more layers in there. I’ve also cut down and tore out a huge layer of shrubs and young trees that lined my veggie garden. I want to up a small fence to keep the bunnies out, but the shrubs were ugly and hogging up root space from my future veggies. No veggies are planted yet, the garden is currently a mud pit. Outside of the veggie garden I have some plans for the flower beds around the house. I want to lay down some brick next to the drive way to sort of expand it. So that when its wet out we don’t get out of our cars into tall wet hosta or mud. I also plan to plant some hydrangea and maybe an azalea along the side of the house.

In my other garden I have found time to work on the wreath. I don’t have any update pictures right now. But I’ve made a few more flowers and started on the leaves. It needs the leaves and right now I won’t be able to tell how finished it is flower wise until I get the leaves in. The flowers I do have are all laced, have centers, and are wrapped in floral tape. That is a ton of prep work that I spent hours on earlier in the week. I have a good handful of leaves already made and about half of those are laced. I know I’ll need more and I’m motivated to make them, I just lack the time right now.
