Life of Pi
I just recently finished Life of Pi by Yann Martel. Most evey one I know has recently read this book and really enjoyed it. So it has been in my To Read pile for the last month or so. I really enjoyed it as well. The beginning was sort of slow and a little confusing with changes in tense and character. Although it was slow it was still interesting to read about this little Indian boy growing up as a zoo keeper’s child in India. Then after 100 pages or so the book takes a turn and all of a sudden I couldn’t put it down. I was engrossed by the characters and their trials. The later half of the book is about how the boy survives after his freighter ship sinks in the Pacific. He survives on a life boat with several zoo animals including a Bengal tiger. It ended in a such a way that’s made me and several others I’ve talked to want to reread the book or at least rethink the book. I like those sorts of books, it left me thinking about the story and not missing the characters as much. Some books can get me so engrossed but I’m more into the characters than the story. That’s when I can actually go into withdrawals from books, and I get sad that that character is no longer with me every day. Life of Pi left me on a good note and I’d definitely recommend it.
