Mud Mother
I feel like I was very productive this weekend. I did a lot of work in the bead room working on projects and parts of projects that I’ve been putting off for a long time. We watched a few more scary movies. We got to see several groups of friends. And today we’re brewing beer for the first time in almost 2 years.
The first project I finished this weekend is the one I’ve been putting off the longest. Meet Mud Mother. She was made by LavenderCreek, an American lampwork living in Germany. I fell in love with her lampwork years ago and although it seems like yesterday I bought this bead almost two years ago. She’s been sitting in my bead room wanting to be turned into something. But she had to be with the perfect beads to compliment her. I was torn between using copper and keeping the earthy tones or using silver to compliment her accent and b/c she’s worth silver. And I was struggling with what beads should accompany her. What stones were precious enough and yet didn’t take anything away from her. And finally where would I put her.
I really think she’s cool, and want to be able to enjoy her daily. Work would be perfect but naked ladies isn’t really appropriate for that setting. The bead room is great but I’m not in there daily. Kitchen seems dangerous. So Mom (who bought one too and finished her’s in July) hung hers from the mirror in her car. I borrowed this idea and now Mud Mother will go where ever I go.
I went into the bead room Saturday morning and Mud Mother was sitting on top of my work desk. I picked her up and played with some bead ideas that I’d been toying with for a couple months now. And decided to just keep it simple. Go with copper and silver, they look nice together and it solved my which one to use dilemma. The dangles are a nice finishing touch that provide movement in the car. They all provide my silver accent, one has some olive green seed beads and the other has the only precious stone, labradorite cut so wonderfully it glows blue at certain angles.
The wonderful feeling of accomplishment has motivated me all weekend to keep going. I’ve been desperately trying to keep to the projects I have going. I really enjoyed the wirework and torch work I did. So my brain automatically came up with five new ideas for bracelets and bangles. But I haven’t started anything new. Today I’m making progress on my Halloween piece. Last year it as pumpkins…this years it’s a bit different.

She turned out incredible! I really love how you finished the bottom. It’s more versatile than what I did. Good idea!
She really is so cool. You’ll be happy to have her hanging in your car.
