scrambling update beads
It’s been taking so long to post these last two wall flowers on the blog that I opened them in the gallery a few weeks ago. And of course I saved my two favorites for last so I couldn’t just skip this post. Both of these flowers were made this year but came about very differently.
Silhouette came together on a complete whim. The colors presented themselves easily and I knew I wanted it to be a simple flower petal wise. The center just sort of happened while I was brainstorming random ideas for the perfect center. It had to have some umf since the petal structure was lacking. I honestly don’t know where the idea came from…it was just one of those things where my fingers worked and my brain didn’t have a clue what they were up to. I kinda wish that would happen more often. You could almost call it instinct that took over. I find that happens a little bit easier w/ taking pics than it does w/ beadwork. Mostly because of this center silhouette has become one of my favorite pieces. It is mounted on an 8”x8” board and can be easily displayed on a wall or on a plate stand.

The most recent wall flower that I’ve finished is Peacock’s Pride. Again this one’s color combo came to me quickly but the design of the flower took some time….about 7 months. This is the second peacock inspired piece, Morning Sari which was at the art guild this summer was the first. I had all the petals made up for this flower for months, but couldn’t find the right arrangement of petals to really make me happy. Finally a week before the Mackinaw art show I sat down and everything fit into place with this flower. Even the center, an antique black glass button fell out of a drawer and works perfectly. I really love the coloring in this flower, the petals blend together and yet pop out. It was a struggle to construct but it’s very sturdy now. The piece is mounted on a 9”x9” board ready to be hung.
I’ve taken a little brake from beadwork over the last few weeks. But just this past weekend I started cleaning and organizing the bead room. A good sign that bead thoughts and plans are starting to brew.

I totally am digging the peacock one! It really looks like a flower made out of the feathers!
