thaw out
Today is the first day of the year where temps are above 30F. In fact today is the first day of the year the temps are supposed to reach 57! It’s a little after 9am and the temperature can’t be more than 45 right now but it’s glorious. I have opened all the shades, cracked a few windows even just to air out the house. The cats are in heaven listening and watching the birdies chirp and wish for spring. I’m so excited to smell the warmth in the air. This is the February tease, it happens every year. Mother Nature decides to give us a sneak peak, a small thaw, of spring. Maybe it’s for the wild animals to get the hormones flowing, maybe it’s for the trees to stimulate the flower buds to form. I know it effects everyone in this house. I start thinking of flowers and the veggies I want to plant this year. Thinking about drinking wine on the deck and watching the sunset. Thinking about hiring someone to come fix up the deck I’ll be drinking wine on!!! Until now I refused to let these thoughts enter my head…now there’s no fighting it. This morning I’m going to sit in the bead room and happily work on flowers next to the window that is cracked enough to let me enjoy the smell of spring. Tonight we’re going w/ friends back to Mackinaw for trivia at the winery.
The pictures are of the flower I made for my friend. I used her hollow bead as the center and found some seed beads that match it really well. I was a really quick flower to make b/c I knew exactly what I wanted to do w/ it. I gave it to her last week and I think she really liked it. The second picture I couldn’t resist showing along w/ the good flower pic. I was snapping the photos in the dining room and Mira snuck up on me. I’ve always thought it would be cute to get a pic of the kitties sniffing the flowers. But they don’t often want to cooperate in front of the camera. This is the best I have…and it’s pretty darn cute.

Yeah, that was one of the beads I loved. And it works so beautiful as a center. This could really be a flower coming out of the thaw. I mean, the first flowers, the forerunners of spring are often smaller flowers, somehow shaped towards the soil out of which they have just grown. Just like this one! It suits spring pretty well and is really a wonderful flower.
