the sky is an oil painting

ok, maybe it’s water color…..

Tonight I ventured down to the Peoria Art Guild for the opening reception of the Member’s Show where i had entered Morning Sari.  It’s been storming like crazy in Peoria this week so I waited for the latest thunder boomer to pass through and headed down town.  The show was great.  Such an inspiration!  There was a huge turn out of work there, much bigger than the last members show two years ago.  And lots of people showed up.  I’m starting to put names with faces and have found a couple people that remember me enough to chat with.  It’s kinda fun being a part of this group.  I chatted with the guy, John Parks, who painted the 8x8 I bought last year and turns out he won second place at the show.  There were several pieces there I want to buy.  Lots that made me think and lots that I really enjoyed.  If you get a chance the exhibit is open through the beginning of August.

I met up w/ Misty and Trina at the show and we noticed that there was a carnival along the river front down town.  So we decided to go walk along the river and check out the carnival.  I had brought my holga along and wanted to take pictures.  Turns out it was raining pretty steadily, and yet we were brave and went in the rain.  We walked in the rain under umbrellas that didn’t do much to keep us dry.  We bought carni food…I tried my first deep fried snickers bar and am still wired with sugar, which is winning the battle w/ the wine in me right now.  I used up all the pictures I had left in my holga.  I’m hoping they turn out cool.  There are so many fun lights at a carnival w/ all the food vendors and rides.  Plus I took some bridge and river shots.  I used to the B mode on the holga to hopefully expose the film enough.  it was only 160 iso.  I guess I’ll find out soon if I get a roll back of black photos.  After I finished up the film the rain quite and we headed home.  This is when I wished I had film the most.  The sky was amazing.  It looked like a painting.  Pinks, blues, oranges, golds, storm clouds with sun rays peeking through.  Every angel was picture worthy.  it was a dreamy drive home.  And by the time I got home the pinks, and oranges had turned into blues and purples.  Pretty but too dark to truly capture in holga form.  But for a while the world was a work of art and I got to see it.

I so much know what you are talking about the sky as art. smile I have just had this experience recently. Yesterday, on our drive home, the clouds looked so much like a painting, I thought I would be driving into another dimension ... smile Colourful skies are even much more fascinating, I think.
