A Crymson Life

whats in my hands

After I finished the baby blanket this spring I haven’t done anything with yarn.  I played w/ fabric a bit, but mostly just took a break.  About a month after Ryker was born my hands got restless and I started googleing different patterns.  I haven’t been so excited about a crochet pattern until I found this one.  At first it looked too complicated, I couldn’t even believe it was crochet, until I read the pattern.  It’s a combination of single and double crochets, both stitches I know how to do.  Mom and I went to a local yarn store in Morton Illinois called Ewe-Nique Yarns.  It’s a fabulous little yarn shop with a great selection and super friendly and knowledgeable staff.  (if I take a class to learn to knit it will be here)  The pattern calls for Noro sock yarn, so I picked out two skeins and started up.

I’m in love with sock yarn, who knew to crochet with it? genius!  and not just that I’m in love w/ Noro sock yarn.  I love the crazy color combos they are dyed in.  And the long color stripes the yarn creates.  I love wondering what color it will turn into next and with this pattern it’s doubly exciting to wonder how the two different skeins colors will match at different points.  I could make two blocks with the same skeins and get two completely different blocks.  So cool!  And it’s letting me stay excited with this pattern. My first block is nearly complete, only maybe five more rows or so and then the border.  Earlier in the week I went back up to Ewe-Nique yarns and bought two more skeins to work with.  I really wanted one with turquoise and pinks.  Now I have lots to work with and it’s just a matter of finding time to crochet.

So happy and colourful. Great for a baby blanket! Ryker will love it, too.
